External partition failing to mount under OS X?

I have a Toshiba 240gb external hard drive that's broken down into three 80gb partitons, all formatted under Windows XP to FAT32. All three partitions mount perfectly fine under Windows and Linux. However, under OS X (Intel, 10.4), the first drive fails to mount with an error message stating that it's corrupt. Attempts to mount, verify or repair the partition all return the same message:
    Verifying volume “TOMATOPORN”
    ** /dev/disk1s1
    ** Phase 1 - Read FAT
Unable to read FAT (Input/output error)
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

    1 non HFS volume checked
    	Volume needs repair

I haven't found much on Google with regards to this odd problem, would anyone else here have run into such?
