I know this was posted in motors already but im posting this here as its bike specific.

Check out from page 80. Note new text in there about using dipped lights during the day. Funny that it doesnt say the same for car drivers etc.

    Any other comments?

A hell of a lot more good advice in there than there used to be. It would be nice to see people quizzed on this as part of the theory test (even an entirely separate theory test for bikers).

As for the DRLs, well I've always been half-and-half with this issue. If everyone was running DRLs, then there would be a certain level of fatigue - drivers would become accustomer to them, and there would be no difference between cars and bikes again. They can also have the effect of "drowning out" other road users without lights - cyclists and pedestrians mainly.

Far more useful than DRLs are high-vis jackets. You stand out in a high-vis jacket, even the cheapest, nastiest one. If it was possible to get a "proper" high-vis jacket (like the Gardai wear) - I had a look around, they're not easy to get in bricks-and-mortar shops - then it would definitely help. From a distance, bikers in this gear can look like Gardai, so other motorists immediately take notice and caution. There should be zero VAT on all safety equipment, and perhaps even subsidies from insurance companies (actually funded by the Government) to help drive people to buy the gear.

I agree seamus, a lot more detailed than the old version. As regards a separate theory test- i think that is now the case. try a hardware store for the heavy Hi-Viz jackets as i saw one recently in an arro store near where i live so i assume all stores stock them.
