Can HTPC's pick up, read and use NTL's digital signal without the decoder box?

FireDTV is about the closest though I don't know if anyone has tested it with NTL. It supports DVB-C and CAM/CI (smartcard) though if NTL are using there own encryption system not supported by the a CAM that could put a spanner in the works.

FireDTV is supported by MCE and Media Portal at least possibly a few more as well. A list of supported CAMS is on the site as well.

As far as I can see this little sentence under the table of supported providers kinda scuppers that!!
UPC Digital cable TV is not supported in general !

Not something I'm too clued in on but do UPC and NTL now use different encryption systems as a post of the FireDTV forums in regards this exact topic says check out FireDTV UK.

I browsed to the site and the found this under the top two tuners.
Ideal Solution for creating a personal video recorder for your current NTL/Telewest subscription.

The bottom two says for Europe only I wonder what's the difference ?

I started down this path and gave up - think you joined in in the discussion over on the cable and mmds forum. The nagravision system, which chorus use for the MMDS STB, requires your card to be locked to the box key. For the effort and cost I decided it wasn't worthwhile, you'll need the nagra CAM along with the fireDTV box + the extra sub for watching/recording independent channels.
I don't know what system NTL digi use for encryption, but I don't imagine an easier solution being available!
Guess we'll have to wait for the UPC pvr next year (as watty mentioned here) when chorus/NTL re-launch.

Yeah it seems that way interesting news about the UPC PVR though hopefully they will put an s-video out (or better) on the flipping thing but I wont get my hopes up.

I tried Using the AV out cables on the NTL Digital box (New Slim Type) and feeding it into the AV in in the back of my TV Card, using the Line in for Sound recording, (I already had the Sound from TV card - to Line in in the Sound Card). I'm rareley Home at night time.

As I no Longer have an Analogue Antenna on the House I can only get RTÉ1 Badly, I was trying to record TV from NTL Digital Box,.

I found I could record Perfect Stereo Sound (My TV card is Mono) but was getting no Picture, Just a No Signal Like Blue Screen...

    Any Idea's?

It sounds like a cable problem I'm not familiar with the A/V outputs on the NTL STB but does it have more than one scart output ?

If not how are you connecting the STB to the tuner in your PC ?

It must be a cable problem, The AV out on the TV doesn't work either!!

    New to HTPC.
