Where can I get a RED Vespa GTS250

    Hello all,

I've been considering getting a Vespa GTS 250 for a while now, and yesterday I went out to Bike World to have a proper look. Damn fine bike and I want it now.
So I go up to the young lady and ask her how long would it take to get me one in red. To which she replies, never. Unless I plan on buying 40 of them. Apparently they bought a container of them in the one colour (a dark pug ugly red/wine) colour and until they sell them all they wont be getting any more and even then she cannot garauntee theyll get the colour I want.
Maybe this is normal but I was a bit gobsmacked. Should I really throw down 6000 of my hard earned european dollars on something thats not even in the colour I want?!?!! The girl also claimed that they import all the vespa's to Ireland and as such noone will have them in any colour but theirs. I dont know how true that is but seemed like she was just trying to force me into buying off them.
So does anyone know where I might get one in the colour I want?
And if it came to it whats the story with buying in the UK or up North? VRT and all that. If I bought it up North Id probably drive it down, and id I bought it across the water Id probably take it on the boat so shipping costs shouldnt be a consideration.
The price seems to be about 500/600 euro cheaper from England, which Im guessing would be more or less the VRT, making it work out something similar overall?

They're probably right.. they are the only distributors listed on the Vespa website. You could try Jack Nolans in the Coombe...

Have a look on mobile.de.. You're looking at 3,700 - 3,800 euro for a new one.. Just be aware of the VAT/VRT implications..

Bikeworld is why I bought my Aprila 500 from a dealer in the U.K. Un-frickin'-believable, is the only word to describe their attitude.

They had two AA500's at the time, one new, one s/hand. I drove from Galway for a look, and a test drive. I got neither - well apart from looking at it in the showroom, that is. When I asked about a test drive, I was told 'no'. When I asked how we were going to get past this impasse, I was told by the lady 'do you not know anyone who has one, who could give you a spin?' - or words to that effect. To which I replied, '...if I did, would I have travelled a round trip of 260 miles to see yours?'

So, BW wouldn't give a test ride, and there was no movement on the price - about Eur6300 on a s/hand one at the time, so I went home, went online, and bought one on the net from a dealer in the U.K.

It was delivered to my door, and I just rode in and paid the VRT on it. l Painless. Oh, and cheaper too, but that's by-the-by...........

As for a the GTS, well Jack Nolan would be always be my first stop for any scooter. And scooters, by dint of their small engine size are small VRT anyway. Full VRT on a new 250 is only Eur500. VAT is a different story, but it's still calculable, and easy to do. Just fill out the paperwork, and pay yer money - don't forget that if you buy new in the UK and have it shipped, you don't have to pay the UK VAT - currently 17.5% - all the prices you see published include that UK VAT, remember, so the saving is still worthwhile.....

Failing that, if you still don't want the hassle, I know someone with an AA500 for sale...

Ill give Jack Nolan a shout tomorrow so.
If you dont mind me asking, was it expensive to have your bike shipped over to you?
And also am I right in saying it has to be registered in the UK first? But that should be standard anyway?

It cost me about........350 iirc, but to Dublin it'd be cheaper. Probably 200.

As for registering it in the UK - if you're buying new, don't. You will need a VAT invoice, and depending on the shop, they'll either sell it to you without the VAT provided it's collected and shipped - not ridden - away, or, you'll have to pay it and afterwards, here, you'll be able to reclaim the VAT from the UK Revenue once it's been VRT'd and VAT'd here.

    You'll end up paying:

    UK price, excl UK VAT
    +VRT (Eur 500)
+VAT @21% on the total of (bike price+VRT).

You can work this out yourself. Then see if it's cheaper than buying here. If it's the same, or very close, but at least you get the bike you want in the colour you want, just go and do it anyway......

So, does this mean I still own an AA500? :D

    ah, well, worth a try.......:p

    Cheers for that!
Tried Jack Nolan and they said they dont do Vespas at all. Just roughly trying to work out the costs it shouldnt be too much more expensive to buy from the UK really. But damn Vespa have brought out a limited edition GTV 250 a month or two ago which I hadnt seen before... Now I just cant decide anymore!!! Dammit!
Yep it means you still own the AA500 Im afraid!

.....wow - that's a first for me....he's been Mr.Vespa since the day of the flood.....pity, as that shower in the Long Mile Road are frickin' useless. I'm out of touch with scooters, but, are Scooter Island still around? And how about Southern Scooters, near Dungarvan?

Oh, and there's always N.I., you know, at least you wouldn't have to deal with Ferries, etc.......

I bought my current Vespa from Southside Scooters in Waterford alright, i wasnt too keen on dealing with them again. My scooter arrived about 3 months after I had transfered the cash! But i did email them a few weeks ago to see what sort of price they could do on the GTS, and they said sure no probs they could get me one. But Ive tried contact them since then and nothing.
Scooter Island is still there alright but they dont seem to be too into answering the phone this last week! Also twice I left my current Vespa in there for repairs and was ripped off. First time they couldnt fix the problem and told me it wasnt really a problem but still charged me. Second time they "fixed" a puncture that was magically back by the time I got the scooter home, and refused to fix it again for free. Even tho I had actually asked them to change the tire to a tubless one they never bothered.
Theres a crowd called Northside Motorcycles on the malahide road, who fixed everything in a couple of hours for the half the price. So I vowed not to every go back to Scooter Island after that. Even so like I said I tried contacting them to no avail.

...crumbs, that's bad luck.....best to avoid those guys, then.

You could try Meskill motorcycles in Limerick - he's usually amenable to all sorts of deals, not sure about the Vespa, but it wouldn't hurt - he imports a lot of stuff, including new...
