After a nightmare Breeders' Cup it's time to try and win back some of that money lost. With some very attractive racing at Cork (including the Cork Grand National Handicap Chase) and Leopardstown hopefully it won't be too hard to get a few winners.

Cork 2.15 The national will see Penny Hall and one of my favourites Dix Villez battle it out. Camptect was heavily backed last time out going from 10s into 9/2 and winning impressively with a nicely timed ride. I was given this horse as a tip last weekend but decided not to bother with it. It will be no surprise today to see it's price shorten as some of the people responsible for the gamble last time will have no problem backing it again.
The old heart vs the head battle is going on between Penny Hall and Dix Villez and while I do think the latter is due a big win I do not think today will be the day. Penny Hall proved last time out that it can handle soft ground as well as good. It has finished in the top two in its last four races and should get this trip without too much discomfort. This race is wide open, but a repeat performance of its last two races should see it feature strongly here. It would also be wise to watch the market, taking note for any significant money for the JP McManus horse who is trained by the Carberry clan. The three dangers are Dix Villez, Camptect and Another Nation. 1st @ 13/2

Cork 3.25 Mounthenry ended the season well in April finishing second to Nicanor at Punchestown. Falling from 3 out at Limerick on its re-appearence wasn't the best start to say the least and I think the RP is spot on with its assessment of this race. After getting around safely at Punchestown last time out (to build confidence considering its run in April no doubt) it should now go on and beat these. Mounthenry was well ahead of Mossbank in Punchestown back in April and will need a repeat performance of that day to beat him here as I'm sure Mossbank has improved since then. unplaced

Cork 3.55 Total Victory landed a great win at Aintree two weeks ago after finished third on its hurdling debut. While this field is not the best, anything near that performance should see it win again. 1st @ 7/4

Hereford 3.40 Gipsy Cricketer would have went on to score 2 from 2 in very similar contests last time out had it only been for a mistake from 3 out which seemed to knock the wind out of the horse. I'm willing to forget that mistake and give it another chance today considering it is nicely handicapped and should be able to get the better of these. 3rd @ 15/2

Leopardstown 1.35 Ugo Fire has become expensive for me to follow, and despite its win last time out it still owes me a few quid and should account for that by winning a very similar listed race today. McDonogh has some very attractive rides today at Leopardstown and this is one of several of his that I think will go well. Ireland's Call was absolutely brilliant for the Caseys but I'm not sure if it is up to the task today. Repeat performance by Ugo Fire required to snatch this. Senor Benny is the danger. 2nd @ 6/4

Leopardstown 2.05 Star Inside is looking for 4 from 4 with McDonogh on board. As the RP says the McDonogh and Prendergast have enjoyed a very good season and this is the final listed race of the year another win is on the cards. The Ethiopian is the main danger here as it is still remains to be seen what this animal is capable of. 2nd @ 5/2

I'm running out of time to finish this write up so I will just list the other horses who take my fancy today.

    Leopardstown 2.35 Al Eile 2nd @ 15/8
    Leopardstown 3.05 Holbien unplaced
    Leopardstown 3.35 Eagle's Pass 1st @ 10/1
Leopardstown 4.05 Celtic Warrior e/w unplaced
    Market Rasen 1.50 Secret Pact 1st @ 5/4

Just had a look at the card, and completely agree with these two. After a bad day yesterday, I could do with a win today :)

Tell me you backed Penny Hall...

    Good call on Secret Pact.

Had Lord Of Our Own in that 2.15 at Cork, finished 4th (like every other horse i backed each way recently)

I was happy with its performance though as it ran a good few furlongs than it ever had before

Cheers mate. I backed the lot of them. Very disappointed with the selections in Leopardstown (bar Eagles Pass) but the selections elsewhere made up for it.

Cheers man. After a bad day yesterday I was determined to have a few winners today. With this new job my head is wrecked, I can't put enough time into the horses as I would like. Who knows, maybe next week I'll win the euromillions and be able to give as much time as I like to this great sport. :)

Penny hall was 13/2, wasn't it?

Good to see you back in form, been a while since you've gotten a winner or four

Any chance you can take a few days off here and there before Santa comes ? The kids are hoping to ask Santa for new bikes and an Xbox
