    It won't be missed.

Putting somebody like Adrian Weckler in charge of a supplement such as that was like putting Osama Bin Laden in charge of 4th of July celebrations.

The articles were vague, poorly researched and full of inaccuracies. Some were borderline press-releases for hardware companies. I e-mailed him several times pointing out faults with articles, funnily enough he didn't reply.

I knew one of the former sub-editors of the SBP and had a chat with him about that supplement (about three years ago). Told him then that it was a waste of time to try to keep up with trends as by the time it hit the presses it was already out of date. Advised analytical articles. They tried that for a while - and didn't work. If they had decent tech writers maybe but obviously they didn't.

It's actually in today's SBP, and here's a few nuggets from the laptop "feature".

In talking about Intel, Adrian Weckler describes the company as "the mega-semiconductor group". Class. Last time I checked, Intel was one comapny, albeit with loads of divisions.

The name of Intel's only real rival, AMD, appears to have escaped Mr. Weckler as he demonstrates by referring to "rival chips". He also suggests that "The advantage of non-Intel chips is cost" and , never once referring to AMD by name.

Discussing hard drives, he finishes up the article with the technically competent observation that "Fortunately, external memory is cheap". WTF?

    Haha..

Well, I'm not surprised to read that, seeing it's written by the same person who did these predictions for the technological development of 2006...
