Barrier-free railways

    If one has a barrier-free railway, how do you manage crown control in an emergency, especially underground. It think this was a problem in the King's Cross fire where more an more people were fed from the foyer to the platforms (the escalators were also part of the problem).

    I don't know how the railway barriers are set up but I have installed turnstyles in office buildings for access control. these are always linked to the fire alarm system and the barrier arm will drop down in an emergency.
