looking for a bit of help if possible. got a freesat satellite system installed a few years ago (has digibox) . the guy who installed it downloaded the english epg to it instead of the irish one. have bbc and itv on epg instead of having to go to other channels, which is great. had looked into getting a second box and decided to suscribe to sky for a year.got the new system installed last week but it has the irish epg on it. dont need rte etc as i have a rooftop aerial. so my question is, CAN and HOW do i download the english epg, and will the sky viewing card for sky one, discovery etc still work if i do this.

The epg is not downloaded by the installer, if you insert an Irish card you will get an Irish EPG

Desktop PC Boards discount code on https://www.satellite.ie/ is boards.ie

    Press red on Sky News.
Take out card when interactive has loaded.
    DON'T put it in again.
    Press backup

The UK EPG will download from Satellite (BBC Radio and ITV and BBC3/4 etc all work on EPG). No pay TV channels unless you put card in, and then the EPG reverts to Ireland.

thanks very much to tony and watty for replies. so i can swap from irish and english epg and back again by doing as u suggest watty?. wife used to bbc/itv for the last few years. NOT impressed that she has to go to other channels to watch holby city!:rolleyes:thanks again shovel

Just one little point - Isn't Holby City on BBC1?

BBC1NI and BBC2NI are on the Irish EPG at 143 and 144 so you don't need to swap the card to see them.

to shaneoc. a very valid point that you made. i put same question to "she who must be obeyed". her answer is that she is used to the english epg and knows all the bbc/itv channel no's having used freesat for years. when pointed out that she can use favourites, i got a look( ) that did not make me feel like explaining much more. by the way can i ask this question again- can i swap back between the epgs as watty has explained above, whenever i want?. shovel

The channels will revert back to Irish listings once the card is returned into the skybox slot. However the process is somewhat slow, and will be tedious after a short while.

    Yes it is slowwwwww.
And "other channels" does not work on Favorites. And no two digit short cut for favorites. too many button presses for favoites EPG

hi. back again. thought about my opening post overnight, and would like to know if the following is possible.

the freesat system i had installed a few years ago is in the main viewing area and has a freesat card. the digibox is a pace minibox (great box, very fast). but it has only one rf out makeing it awkward to distribute signal around house.
the new sky box (pace ds440n) was installed in another room which had a phone connection nearby.
what i want to know is can i swap the boxes around, and then swap the cards around as well, do the sky news active trick with the new box. so the new box would become a freesat box. then put the sky subscriber card into the old box and connect it to the phone line. so that becomes my contract box.
will it matter if the box phoneing back sky is not the same box as the installer fitted?. and would sky care!

sorry for being longwinded in this post.

    thanks shovel

p.s. only signed up for basic 2 mixes from sky and have every intention of cancelling after 12 months

    Yes.
You don't need any "tricks" if you swap the cards while the boxes are unplugged.
Do not connect/disoconnect dish without having mains disconnected.

thanks watty. so i can do that so. and sky would have no problem with a different box being connected to the phoneline?. i am not sure how the phone check that sky do works. does the box ring sky or visa versa. and is it just the subscriber card that is checked, not the box-serial number etc

The box is told by satellite when to ring.

You can ring sky an tell them your box has been replaced/ungraded what ever, but there is no need unless you have premium channels or perhap order events. Then the card needs paired to new box. Not a problem.
