Fabulous car with a lovely engine. I believe access for maintenance is a nightmare, or it is on the XJ anyway. It might be worthwhile lining up a specialist before taking the plunge.

What sort of age v12 are you talking ?
If you are thinking on maintaining it yourself then you better be a good mechanic as they can be a nightmare if they go wrong , early ones suffered from head troubles on the rear cylinders .
They are a good strong engine if looked after well , have raced a few and can take a bit of a pasting .

Go talk to a Jag Club first. Also, call / go see Derek Dickenson in Artane, or better even his father.

XJS V12: what year is it. Is it a pre-HE, extremely thirsty, a 5.3l HE or a facelift 6.0? If it has a reliable service history, go for it. If not...

XJS are known for rust, except a small series in 91-92 when they were made with stainless steel.

There are DOZENS of XJS V12 for sale (particularly convertibles) in the JEC Magazine (Jaguar Enthusiast Club: largest Jag club in the world) every month. In the shop you can buy "Jaguar World" and get an idea.

An XJS V12 in bad shape will be very cheap and probably better left to specialists or dreamers. An excellent one will be expensive. In between, ANYTHING goes at any price.

Should you buy the first one you see, you would most probably make a mistake :) If the one you found is a amazing bargain, it probably isn't :)

Seems a bargain, but how much work needs to go in it?

I was wondering is it that one also. I saw advertised a couple of times in the last year... not promising. Possible upside is that it looks like an original Irish reg so might not be too rusty when compared to a UK car.
