I have been listening to mainly American radio for the past couple of years via broadband.

Today when i try to listen to various stations i get a message telling me i cannot access the service anymore because it is only available for American based computers and there are provisions only made for US military in places such as Iraq.

i listen to american radio a lot, but via downloaded mp3, rather then a live stream. but if you can't stream, try using an american proxy to connect

There can be many reasons for this including station bandwidth etc. One issue I came across with a British station is international copyright...

OneWord radio is a station for book lovers and every day there are excerpts from audiobooks played on air. I'm not talking crusty old books no-one has heard of, I'm talking major bestselling authors, Stephen King, Amy Tan, Ian Rankin etc. The website now only streams within the UK because of the threat of international copyright infringement :( The one positive of my living in the UK is that I can still listen to OneWord :D

Perhaps some US stations have a particularly high listnership from abroad and are playing material not yet released outside of the US and so are under legal threat?
