Excel problem

Anyone know how to combine the information in 2 cells into 1?
I'll try to explain - say A1 has "John" in it and B1 has "Smith" in it.
I want another cell to read "John Smith" by combining the other two.
Any ideas??

if john is in cell a1 and SMith is B1

in the destination cell type the following

=a1&b1




NB you will have to put a "space" after the name John otherwise the two words will run into each other

That works fine with the John Smith - but I've just noticed a further problem.
If cell A1 is a house no. (1) and B1 is address (O'Connell Street) when I use A1&B1 there is no gap between the no. and address. I tried putting spaces in the formula eg A1 & B1 but this dosn't work.

Try this
=a1&" "&b1

that should put a space between the contents of the two cell's
