Anyone know where I can pre-order the HD-DVD drive for the xbox 360 (Amazon is sold out)? Either online or in store.

    Thanks.

You wont actually need to preorder the hd-dvd drive buddy, Very few people in Ireland have a 360, with a hdtv, o&any actual hd-dvd movies.

In fact, the day it does launch I'd imagine you could almost count the number of units sold on launch day on your bodily digits.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Is it definitely being released in Ireland and does anyone have a date, I was thinking that I may have to order from amazon .

I can't wait to hook the drive up to my TV. The Xbox team also have a very interesting post about how the HD DVD decoding is all done in software much like how the the 360 emulates the Xbox.

Also that the 3 processors and the GPU is all in use to run HDDVD in software:

    Xbox Team Post on HDDVD

My only concern here is, does that mean that the cooling fans will be on full power to the CPU, GPU.

Amazon wont ship it to Ireland anyway, so that option is out for you.

a pc monitor will work fine if you have a 360 vga cable, or if u want a tv/monitor, get the samsung 19" 940mw in argos for about 340 euros.

    play.com have the HD-DVD drive for €195

    Free shipping too.

A risky choice to get the HD-DVD this early when both it and BluRay could bomb, and without a decent big HDTV it's pretty pointless, even on a monitor, what's the point watching a movie on that ?

I had forgotten about Amazon and Play's policy of not shipping to Ireland because of the WEEE.

I did a small search on some Irish electrical retailers websites for anything to do with HD DVD but nothing came up yet, for a laugh look at www.powercity.ie and see that they call a €120 upscaling DVD player a HD DVD player.

Also I just checked sendit.com and their website says that they will deliver to Ireland via courier, I have ordered from them before their service is good it just depends on the postage. also its due for release on the 24th of this month. Xbox 260 HDDVD @ Sendit

Also it might be an idea to give the Xtravision HQ a call to check if they will have it for sale.

Yeah, I've pre-ordered it from sendit too. Looking at the small print on their site it says they can't ship electronics outside of the UK. Currently the HD-DVD drive is down under "games", so it might be shippable. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't ship it when it is released and they realise.

Honestly your not going to see much of an improvement with HD-DVD on such a small screen.

True normally, but for some bizzare reason this isnt classed as an electrical good but as a gaming goods...

I've managed to pre-order it - just make sure you click on the Euro symbol on the main page to change currency.

They will also ship PC stuff from their new section, so why they ship these and not the other electrical stuff is a mystery. I also ordered a Raptor 10000RPM HDD....

Oh and www.sendit.com have no problem with ireland as their office (not despatch center) is in Belfast ;)

Dunno if it's worth my while buying the hd-dvd drive tbh. I dont have my hdtv yet, and I plan on getting a hdtv only 26/32 inch size.

yeah I know what you mean. As soon as the order was placed with play to test, i cancelled it as I do not want to jump onboard ANY of the HD movie formats this early on in their lifespan.

On a 26" screen hooked up with VGA so your 360 upscales, a normal DVD will look just as great, so why spend more yo-yo's on somthing which only offers a marginal difference, and also stands a chance of bombing... just not worth it...

anyone know the release date for it over here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭Furp

I sent an email to Xtravision and a few other places so far only Xtravision responded that they had passed my inquiry onto the relevant people to find when and if HD-DVD's, Players, or the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive was being released here soon.

Official date in the UK I believe is the 24th of November.

    EDIT
just got word back from xtra vision regarding Tosahiba hddvd players I think. they will not be stocking them, the reason I say i think is because I asked about Toshiba HDDVD and they replied with Toshiba TV.

Assuming you buy a 360 HD-DVD drive, anyone know where you can by HD-DVDs?

On Amazon.co.uk they are all region 1!

    Later,

    Gray

    EDIT

Just my luck! play and sendit are now listing region 2 disks.
