UK car with no paperwork

A colleague at work has come across a UK registered car here in ireland but there is no paperwork with the car, he has the car registration number. What can he do about finding out it's not nicked in the UK etc and/ or registering it in this country??

Ring the DVLA in Swansea of check their website. You can check an online service but there are also 5 commercial agents listed on the site, where you can run the reg number past to check if it is stolen or if loans are outstanding.
