okay so this looks really nice and I've always been an iRiver fan but I'm doubting that this will work with my macbook will it other than if I dual boot windows....

According to both that site and the iRiver website Windows is a requirement. Not sure how I'd feel running bootcamp just for the sake of a media player.

well I don't want to use bootcamp but I'm wondering is their a way around the windows requirement, as in alternative mac software

It's probably not worth the hassle, I'd go for the iPod, especially now they've just been updated.

The iRiver is nice, but has little quirks that make for a slightly less than perfect experience, and they only support Windows as has been pointed out, unlike the iPod, which supports both Mac and Windows. There are hacks around to make it work, but they are not officially supported, and you may end up having something that doesn't work properly. Get onto Creative and ask them to add Mac support, if enough people do they will likely do so. It doesn't speak well for them that they only support Windows.

There are hacks and solutions, but to be honest, you'll be much happier with an iPod.

By the way, the 30GB iPod video is only €49.01 more (and it has 16GB more space!), if you're looking for something that does video, plus a slightly bigger screen: 2.5" versus 2.2".

    lol!

Well the thing is I have a 40GB iRiver, so I don't really need a 30GB iPod. Plus the iPod scroll wheel is notorious for breaking.

I like iRiver, I think there is a program somewhere so that you can use it with a mac

The original 1G and 2G iPods used a mechanical wheel for navigation that gave problems but newer iPods don't suffer that because they use touch pads instead.

Does it support drag and drop ? Will it appear as a removable disk on the Finder ? If both are "yes" then you can drag files from iTunes to it or playlists too I think.
