First of all sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Anyway, I'm flying to Cork next week (Friday) and my passport has expired. I'm flying with Ryanair and AFAIK they accept just passports, Garda age cards and driver licenses. Now my problem is that only have one of these, an expired passport :p:o . Will I have to get an emergency passport or will they accept an expired passport.

All suggestions/ideas are much appreciated :)

You need to go to the Passport Office and get an 'Urgent' passport which will cost an extra €50 and you will be required to show proof of travel dates.

No one will accept an expired passport.

(An Emergency Passport is different from an Urgent one and is only issued in very exceptional circumstances where travel is unavoidable)

EDIT: Is it to Cork internally or from outside Ireland?

Will they issue one just to satisfy an airline's arbitrary rules for an internal flight?

Expired passport will not work I'm afraid. Myself and two friends were travelling with Ryanair last year and my friend was refused at the check-in desk because his passport was a month out of date. He didn't even realise until the check-in girl showed him the dates.

Tis looking that way alright but I'll head to the passport office tomorrow and see where I stand.

You should be able to get a new passport in a week. Contact your local TD. They have a facility to get a passport for you in 3 days. Worked for me. :)

Got it sorted today :D for the normal price, no need for emergency or urgent passports :) - now look forward to a 17 hour drinking binge in Cork next week. Cheers everybody for your swift replies :) pity about the Gardaí in Pearse St. - they wouldn't stamp my application form so had to go back to Raheny..

    Thanks again

Simply ring them up and arrange to meet to hand over the paperwork. In my case I simply went in to the passport office with the ref number ptovided by my local TD and collected it in 3 days.
