South Indian Buddhist Monks create sand mandala in Clonmel: Nov 7th - 15th

    The South Tipperary Arts Centre in Clonmel has organised a visit to Clonmel by Tibetan Buddhist Monks from the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in India. They will stay in Clonmel for a week from November 7th to 15th While they are in Clonmel they will create a sand mandala in the County Museum and hold a performance in the High School. There will also be an informal evening with the monks in the South Tipperary Arts Centre and they will facilitate workshops in which adults and children can try out the arts of the Buddhist tradition.

    The Monks will be involved in the following events:

    Sand Mandala Opening Ceremony:10 a.m. /Wed/November 8th/County Museum
    Work on the mandala will continue until November 14th and is open to the public each day at the Museum: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    The Power of Compassion: 8 p.m./Sat/November 11th/High School
    Performance piece including mantras, dances and music which illustrate the full range of this astonishing culture.. Tickets are €10 from the Arts Centre.

    An Evening with the Monks: 8p.m./Mon/November 13th/South Tipperary Arts Centre
    A special talk on the mandala, a history of the monastery with some chants and dance. Tickets €5 10 from the Arts Centre.

    Sand Mandala Destruction Ceremony: 10.30 a.m./Tues/November 14th/County Museum
    Short ceremony followed by procession in which mandala is poured into the river in keeping with custom. The public are invited to join in this journey.
