What films do you reccomend with good surround sound ? I just rewatched the Thing recently and the surround sound was great, the helicopter, the wind and the moans and groans coming from all directions.

I also remember thinking the surround sound effects in Indianna jones were great too.

    Any other suggestions ?

Never thought of that one! I'll have to give it a go.

Silent Hill is a recent one off the top of my head, great sound. The air raid sirens deafened the **** out of me when I listened to it on surround sound, it was great :)

I find animated movies tend to have the most ambitious mixes.

The Iron Giant was great... especially when the giant is striding about the place.

Titan A.E. was really good as well... the scene near the end with the two star ships chasing each other through a massive ice field sounds amazing with all the creaking and cracking of the ice.

Saw that in the Savoy One when it came out. The sound was amazing for the opening sequence. Thoroughly recommend cranking up the volume on it if you want to test a Surround Sound system.

I remember when I first got my surround sound system, I was watching the Godfather of all films. There was a bit when the character Solazzo (sp?) takes a sip of coffee, and the surround sound made it sound so much like he was standing beside me that it scared the bejeebus out of me.

The best scene in a movie for a decent sound system is in the first Matrix. Remember the bit when Neo and Agent Smith pull the guns on each other in the sub-way station you get the bullet time as the bullets fly right past each-others heads? Try it with the speakers up to eleven. It will blow you away.
