    Hi all you legal eagles,
I was wondering if someone could help me understand the difference between the different types of licenses out there for selling alcohol.

Ive spent over an hour now seaching google and irishstatutebook.ie but cant find (because I dont know) what Im looking for.

Specifically, Im interested in a club license. What they can and cant do.
Ive been told its not possible under a club license to sell cans for consumption on the premises or to sell carry outs.
That just sounds strange and some what dubious. Can anyone shine some light?

I know of a club that will fill a specific off license request on behalf of a member, ie buy from the whole saler goods it normally doesnt stock and sell these goods to a member for consumption off its premises. Is that legal?

    Thanks for

I am now in a similar position, trying to find out whats involved in getting a club licence. I've googled it for ages and this (+3yr old) post is all I can find, other than advice to go to a solicitor.

Did you manage to get a licnece? I'd greatly appreciate any advice. We have a cards club and are considering a getting a bar. It would be internal (on premis) and for members only. Any idea whats involved?

    Thanks!

There is a book available written by Constance Cassidy SC and published by Clarus Press entitled: The License Trade - A Users Guide. It costs about 21 Euro. Go and buy it.
