Less than three weeks ago I recieved my new external HDD, and it worked great for the first two weeks, however in the last week the HDD which is 250GB's has decided that it's only a 72 gig drive and is completely empty of any files. This is a big problem as there was a lot of material on the drive that I don't have anywhere else and also my friends pc backup is/was on it.

There was no incident of it being banged up or something strange going on the last time it worked correctly, it was simply working one day and then this issue the next.

I have very little experience when it comes to hardware so I'd appreciate any advice that people could throw my way on fixing the issue. Cheers everyone

Have you moved the drive to another computer recently as older O/Ss can't see large disks or newer partion types?

If you haven't formatted the disk since you bought it you should have the WD diagnostic tools available for install from <Drive Letter>\WD_Windows_Tools\WD\setup.exe

Try running that and see if it finds anything.
