VGA to SCART possible?

    I'm trying to build a media PC. The onboard graphics on the mainboard are standard VGA sharing RAM from mainboard.

    I want to invest in a "cheapish" solution to allow me playback DVDs, VIDEOs, TV etc from the PC to my BEKO 32 ' TV.
    I have 2 questions.

    1) How do I convert the VGA ouput of the PC to the only input on my CRT TV which is SCART? I've seen lots of wiring solutions but its not a route I want to take. Anything decent I can buy like a convertor of sorts?

    2) If not then would this card from komplett which has TV-OUT (svideo i presume?) be a solution for me?

    If so then how can I convert from one of its outputs to SCART and is the quality going to be watchable?

    Should have also said that I'm not really a gamer so dont anticipate playing games on this just TV etc?

    first of all, my pedantic rant :)

    You cannot convert anything to SCART as such. SCART is a connnector that contains different formats such as composite, Svideo, RGB and audio in both in and out directions. Not all cables or devices have these connections wired up. Ie cheaper TV's will only have composite and audio signals wired up.

    Get a used graphics card with TV out from adverts.ie, should cost no more than 20e. It will come with Svideo. Then you just need an SVideo to SCART cable. When buying it, be sure the signal is in the correct direction, ie from Svideo socket to SCART.

    The quality on Svideo and Composite is fine for dvd's and video but forget browsing as the resolution of TV is pathetic not to mention the refresh rate. Assuming yoiu have a CRT TV of course!

    There is one more option if a bit expensive;

    This box of tricks will convert the VGA signal into an RGB scart or s-video output.

    But like I said not cheap.

    this guys had a electrical diagram for creating a vga-scart cable, but the website is offline right now..maybe it'll come back.

    basically needed to set your resolution etc, before you plugged the tv in, using pstrip, or one of those type of apps.
