    Hi,
I am about to transfer from 2nd year MSISS into 1st year Computer science tomorrow, the transfer wont be officialy sorted but I will start attending lectures anyway,
could someone please confirm that this ---->! is the right timetable for lectures?
Also has anyone any advice on catching up with the work that ye have done?
What should I try and catch up on first,
I did two engineering maths modules, and one Compuer science module (it was C++ solely, but I figure that it will help me to learn Java quicker as for/while loops etc. seem to be pretty similar)
and generaly any advice/ tips would be aprecciated,
    Thanks.

ALso what are your thoughts on the course?
And how much people are in the course?

I'd imagine that you haven't missed that much, but if you feel under pressure remember that you can go to the programming support centre with any issues about, yep, programming.

I'm sure someone else will be able to help you with your other questions.

Passport, tomorrow we have a lie in then computing in the Lloyd (LB08). You're from waterford? I haven't met *anybody* else in Trinity from waterford yet!!
I'm Cian, I might see you tomorrow.

as for the LB08 if ye don't want to be behind or that, the lecturer has the notes on his page

though its been pretty easy so far so shouldn't be any hassle catching up...

Hi Passport, I'll see you in there tomorrow aswell. My name's Padraig.

You haven't really missed much, a couple of days and you'll be up to speed with the Maths, we've only been doing Matrices. The Digital Logic class is going to be a bit of a head wrecker to catch up on, but don't worry about it too much, it just kind of finally sinks in after a while.

There are about 36 including CSLL people I think, so a pretty small class. Seems good enough so far, but we've really been crawling through Computing and Programming at a snail's pace.

    Yup programming is pretty slow...
Padraig, have I come across you? Name doesn't ring a bell.

Really just 36, that's cool, I thought it was a much bigger class, like in the region of over hundred, I covered matrices last year so they should be ok, thanks for the advice and see you tomorrow so.

Yeah I think so. You're Mariah's friend aren't you ? I don't think we've spoken much though. We really need to get that pub trip organised for the class...

That's probably the other Cian you're thinking of, the guy with the beard. He's doing CSLL, I'm doing CS. Whereabouts do you usually sit, so I know who to look out for?

Well good luck in CS, I hope it works out for you

Just out of interest, what was it about CS that appealed to you? I'm in my final year of MSISS now, but I often thought that CS would suit me because of the logical problem solving aspect to it. Why are you leaving and going to the dark side?

If any of yee need any help with the stuff you're dealing with at the mo, (most likely coghlans lectures) gimme a shout and i'm more than willing to run through some stuff. nice to keep it up too - you kinda forget it after first year :D

You say "any of yee". If you do in fact mean "any of yee" having trouble with the stuff coughlan is spewing out, you'll have half the class on your doorstep I'm afraid! ;)
But yes, yes I'm completely lost with digital logic.

how can you be lost with dld?
it was my favourite subject back in first year

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 364 ✭✭BrenC

For the first month of DLD everyone was just staring at the board with blank faces, it passes though :D

I just loved it when he assumed we could all add and subtract binary, then convert to decimal. The look on his face when someone asked "How did you get 16?" was priceless.

It's a fairly straightforward course. Electrotechnology and Digital Logic are the only classes I've found a bit mental; I have never done Physics and Brians lectures are a bit out there to begin with. It's starting to make more sense tho!

Welcome to the course anyway; its a small class and everyone is pretty friendly.

That's easy to sort out - just go to the fuse box and flick the switch for the sockets in the bedroom. Taking all precautions of course! ie unplugging computers etc but that's what I used to do before berating my flatmate when he got back :D
