    Hi,

Quick question: Can anyone book and play on the courts in TCD or do you have to be a member/student?

    Thanks for your help...:)

I'm fairly sure you have to be either a student, member of staff, or graduate member of DUCAC but I could be wrong. Give the sports centre a ring and they'll be able to tell you pretty quickly (though you won't be able to book over the phone if you are I don't think, that requires a 25 euro fee or thereabouts for the year for members).

    From here:
    1. Courts may only be used by Trinity students and College Sports Facilities members.
    2. Court booking receipts and student/membership cards must be shown at all times when requested by authorised personnel.

There's a sports centre opening in March, apparently, so any information on the facilities mentioned for Luce Hall will need to be updated then.

I seem to remember reading that the new Sports centre will be open to the public during off peak hours?

Due to the expense of building and operating a sports centre of this size the Dept. of Sport are considering allowing external (anyone who isn't Trinity by some way) membership. There were a few ideas thrown about, weekend use, post 6pm use. stuff like that.

I think March is the earliest the gym will be open, April a more modest hope and May slightly more realistic.

I actually don't work with either DUCAC or Dept. Of Sport so take ^ with a pinch of NaCl etc.

Just to answer the question, at the moment, the gym is quite small, have a couple of bikes and thread mils, some free weights and weighs machines. There is no campus pool but an argrement with a near by pool for swimming times. There is a basketball court sized area with the gym, tennis and football "courts", rugby pitch, cricket crease and running track on campus. there are more rugby, soccer and hockey pitches in santry.

the new gym will have loads of stuff including a 25 pool.

I wonder who studies in the Hamilton end of college?!

As for opening times, I've heard that March is quite realistic, apparently they're ahead of schedule...

large sections of CRANN are very completed, as I know thanks to a friend being drunk, climbing into the place, and going to sleep in a completed office. no idea how far behind the sports centre is.
