Dublin Chamber warns on transport slippage
    October 31, 2006 10:49

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce held a special briefing to mark the first anniversary of Transport 21 today. The plan will see €24 billion invested in transport in the Greater Dublin Area over 2005-2015.

The Dublin Chamber said it was unacceptable that 12 months since the launch of Transport 21 no progress appears to have been made establishing the new Dublin Transport Authority.

It said that while good progress appears to have been made, slippage has already occurred on many of these hugely important projects. Integrated ticketing, additional Quality Bus Corridors and some rail projects have been affected.

'If this continues, the massive switch to public transport will not be possible,' the Dublin Chamber of Commerce warned. 'Even worse congestion will further erode Dublin's competitiveness,' it added.

The presentations are available here: http://www.dublinchamber.ie/current_issue.asp?article=712
The Dublin Chamber marked the first birthday of Transport 21 by holding a special briefing with the Chief Executives of the four agencies charged with the plan's implementation. Their presentations can be downloaded below.

The presentations are of a large size (5MB - 16MB each), so it is advisable to right-click on the link and save the file to your computer.

I see the Irish Rail presentation points out that one of the advantages of "Docklands" station is "integration with bus and LUAS".

From their own map on the following page of the presentation, the integration with the proposed LUAS line really doesn't look to be too great. It's possibly marginally better than the current situation at Connolly Station, but it's not what most people might understand by the term "integration".

I'd also be curious to know which bus routes this station integrates with. And if new routes are to be created, where are the buses going to come from?

NRA one is basically a carbon copy of their website information, but it does give a nice picture of what things will look like (hopefully) in 2015.

They say they want the Interurbans done by 2010. But the rate projects are slipping (eg: M7/8 interchange supposed to start end 06, now starting mid 07), it'll be the end of 2010 before its done.

And a bitter irony for some would be that in the .ppt presentation by IE, there is no mention of the PPT...

Looking at Co. Wexford, I notice they have the n25 (between Rosslare and New Ross) and n11 (between Clogh and Wexford) as 2+1's. Has this been formally decided at this stage?

I think so, but some wexford people are huffing and puffing to have the N11 DC to Rosslare.

Its all huff, puff and baloney for Corporate Ireland. Remember, they only listen to snazy "conferences" organised to make more money for the aforementioned "Corporate Ireland".

What they know, many would write on a cigarette packet.
