ATTENTION : New airport luggage restrictions come into force Monday

Airline passengers are being reminded of new hand luggage regulations coming into force next Monday.

The European-wide law bans containers of liquid exceeding 100 millilitres, including soft drinks, shampoos, creams and sprays from hand luggage.

Passengers can carry small quantities through security in clear plastic bags.

The Irish Travel Agents Association has called on airport authorities not to push up the prices of water and drinks in duty free.

    More :

New EU rules limiting the amount of liquids air passengers can carry on board commercial flights will enter into force from Nov. 6, an EU spokesman said Monday.

Restrictions on the size of carryon luggage would go into effect April 17.

The tighter security measures come after British police announced in August that they had broken up a plot to bring down U.S.-bound flights with liquid-based explosives.

The new rules will limit passengers to carrying no more than 100 milliliters (a fifth of a pint) of liquid per container. All such containers should fit into a clear plastic bag to be presented at security checkpoints.

The rules also limit cabin baggage to a maximum 56-by-45-by-25 centimeters (22-by-17-10 inches) — although exceptions could be made for some items such as musical instruments.

This requirement will come into force in six months' time to give industry more time to adjust, the European Commission said.

At security checkpoints, passengers would have to take off coats and jackets. They will also need to remove laptops and large electrical items from their bags.

Passengers also will be allowed carry larger amounts of liquid in their checked baggage, and can buy more than the allowed amount of liquid at airport shops after security checkpoints.

Although standard in many airports, these minimum rules are not in force across all 25 EU nations. Countries are free to adopt stricter measures if they want.

Should be ok with my laptop back pack on the size restrictions issue.

Great more changes to be aware of but I don't think there's too much difference to the rules currently in place. Luckily I only pack what's needed and have my toiletries in the house in England instead of having to buy some just for the weekend.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: We will all be going through security naked in a few years time.

Annoyed at the 100ml limit on containers incl. deoderants and toiletries. Checked all the ones I use and nothing's under the 100ml. Don't think there's much choice in the <100ml range either.

I suspect you will find massively overpriced 100ml "travel kits" appearing very very soon...

Came back yesterday from USA via London, be careful as I had a bottle of cough mixture which was only half full but in a bottle that could hold 145ml !!! Even though it only had 75ml in it London still took it away even though USA authorities let it on ok!!!
