Hi Im new to boards.ie. Just hoping somebody can help me cause im having alot of trouble trying to sort out my recordings on my DVD camcorder :(

Firstly I want to be able to record using my camcorder, transfer the files from mini dvd to my pc, edit out the unwanted recordings, then make normal size DVDs for storage or presents etc.

Out of them Ive only gone as far as "copy and paste" the files fmor my mini dvd and havent gotten any further.

I have virtualdub, nero6 and dvd shrink.

WHen i copy and paste the files from my mini dvd, they appear as vob, ifo and bup files on my pc. I tried using virtualdub but it doesnt seem to work with these files and would prefer mpeg or avi but i dont know how to convert to these files. I was thinking maybe i should use a burning software but amnt sure which or how to right now!

If anyone could help me, Id greatly appreciate it.

Last pieces of info - Im using asony handycamdcr-dvd205e model and sony 30min 1.4gb dvd rw....

Look forward to any responses! :)

    Owen

The easy route would be to use Nero 6, make sure you have the latest version (you need update package 1 & 2). Note that Nero 6 has been replaced by Nero 7.

The program that authors DVD's in Nero is called Nero Vision Express (user guide here that runs through all the menus & settings).

Basically start Nero Vision click import and point it the the folder or drive that has your miniDVD/contents in it. It will check the files and present the video streams available to import. On the first screen you can edit it, over the next few screens you will be prompted for menus, effects etc. till it gets to the final burning screen where you can output an ISO image or burn to a DVD.

That should start you off but be aware the menus Nero creates are fairly basic if you need something better more specialized programs may be a better choice.
