Don't let the dogs out. Spaniel Addiction Story

In a very strange case it appears that a cocker spaniel became addicted to licking psychedelic toads in a pond . In Ireland we do not (as far as I know not being the freshwater type) have psychedelic toads in our ponds. Thats could all change overnight as the planet hots up .
The owners of a cocker spaniel have told how their beloved pet became addicted to licking poisonous toads for their mind-bending properties.
Laura Mirsch said her dog Lady returned to their new home from one binge at the local pond "disoriented and withdrawn, soporific and glassy-eyed".

    The word spread quickly
Laura Mirsch said: "We couldn't keep our dog's addiction a secret any longer. The neighbours all knew that Lady was a drug addict, and soon the other dogs weren't allowed to play with her."

This is what 'this' toad looks like.

and here is the hound doing (cold?) turkey

At the height of the problem she carried her drug supply around with her at all times
She looked up at me, leaned her head over and opened her mouth like she was going to throw up, and out plopped this disgusting toad

The owner of this dog is a journalist for national public radio in the US of A (where else) so more here

That reminds me of a book I read called Marching Powder, theres a cat in it addicted to crack, it would sit on its owners chest (who smoked crack) and and stare up at him until the owner blew smoke into its face and it would be all over him then purring... Weird

I believe it, man. There are many accounts of various types of animals and insects becoming addicted to mind-altering substances.

Let them at it, I say. That's how WE evolved.....

Nothing on youtube about the toad addict but this mutt has had one too many. It only gets good about half way through.
