    Equipment:
    - ISP provided wless router (netopia)
    - laptop with inbuilt wifi (toshiba)
    - isp provided usb wless adapter connected to pc (wifi adapter provided by isp! (netopia also - ive tried TWO of these)
    - spare wifi usb (x-micro)

    Problem:
    - laptop connects to router via ethernet OK
    - laptop inbuilt wifi CANNOT connect to router or pickup the wless network
    - PC with netopia usb adapter CANNOT connect to router or pickup the wless network
    - both laptop and pc CAN connect to router and pickup wless network with my x-micro adapter
    - the network is currently fully open with no wep / mac address restrictions / ssid is visibl

    Conclusions:
    - the router must be working
    - both the laptops inbuilt wifi is broken AND both netopia usb adapters are broken?

I need to try the usb adapter in another pc i have at home later, but for now thats the info i have.

    Any ideas welcomed!

One quick question...but has the software for the Netopia USB Adaptor been installed on PC or lappie?

The laptop has it's own internal wifi. Drivers etc all installed using windows wireless config.

On desktop tried both netopia software and windows software, but no luck.

Netopia works on one of my own PCs at home. Very very odd.

Tis odd alright. If you go into Network Connections and right click on Wireless Connection and then click on View Available Wireless Networks, does your wireless network show at all when using the Netopia Adaptor?

Sorry for the questions but just wondering if there are any errors coming up.

View available wireless networks - nothing shows up. Says none within range.

When I use my x-micro adapter the network shows up in it instantly.

That is strange. Another thing to check is Control Panel - Network Connections - right click on Wireless Connection and click Properties. Click on Wireless Networks tab at the top and make sure the small box has a tick in it for "Use Windows to configure....".

I have a Netgear USB adaptor on my PC and at setup it tries to turn this off and configure the connection itself. After that I will have to have another think.:)

Tried both with Windows configure and with the Netopia software. No luck with either.

Keep the questions coming though - I wanna make sure I've not missed anything.

Yes. I don't see how the ISP is really relevent though, considering some wifi adapters work and some don't. Any more ideas welcome though.
