    Hi,
I'm thinking of getting one of these location free tv gadgets from the states. Will they work here in Ireland with Ntl cable? I suspect it wont.

    cheers

It is dreadfull 480 line US standard 30fps.
We use 576 line, almost HD in US terms at 25fps.

It won't work too well in USA either as it is WiFi based. Look for a video sender version here.

    a) Won't work properly here (poor B&W if at all)
    b) Might not be legal here
    c) Wouldn't be great even in USA.

I use a minature video sender and 5" LCD PAL TV. Total value about €180

Watty, where did you get the minature video sender? Is the receiver part battery powered?

Lidl. But Argos and Maplin have them. No it uses PSU, but could run of my TV rechargeable pack.
Maplin also have a pair of video senders the size of SCART plugs. The receiver 1/2 can be adapted easily to non-SCART composite.

Many of the 99 EUro portable DVD players (Currys / Argos) have Composite video IN, not just out.

If you already have a laptop, then one of these will do the job better:

Note I love watching the content of my TiVo on my laptop using wireless in bed :)
