Howerya! I've written a blog & posted it. Now I've two questions. Who is going to read my blog? And how am I going to promote it?

For anyone who is interested here it is... http://goldfusion.wordpress.com/

    Thanx.

Maybe no one, maybe lots - building up a readership takes time, and effort on your part as to ensuring it's updated regularily with content that you thinl people want to read.

As for promoting it - well simple steps like linking to it in your signature is always a start. You can also submit it to sites like irishblogs.ie, planet.journals.ie etc. Have you any target audience in mind for your blog? Is their a specific issue it's about?

    1) While you're starting off, just write, don't worry about your readership. If you keep checking your stats, you'll get depressed real quickly.

    2) Decide what you are going to write about, and try to find websites that people of similar interests will go to. They are most likely to read it.

    3) Link it whenever possible. Your sig would be a good start.

    4) Until you've got about 5-10 decent posts on stuff you think people would be interested in reading, don't bother promoting it .

    Good advice.

Don't start a blog unless you have something to say.

For the first few weeks, post as often as possible.

Keep your standards up. [Don't start a 'humour' blog if you only have one good joke]

Forget about readers. Write for for your own satisfaction. If readers like it, they'll come back.

If you want to advertise, join a few blog directories - irishblogs.ie rishblogs.info and any others you may come across.

    Join FeedBurner

    For stats, try Google Analytics.

Learn about Wordpress and its various add-ons.

Footnote to the above - Your blog has only one entry that is a few days old. And get rid of the default Wordpress entry [the first one]. Try a different theme. There are hundreds of them. The default makes it look you couldn't be bothered.

I started a blog a couple of weeks ago just for the laugh [see my sig]. I knew nothing about the subject, and it has been a steep learning curve. I write for myself and have no target audience in mind. strangely enough, I have built up quite a strong readership, and am up to a couple of thousand page impressions a week.
