VW Clubs like www.southernvolksfolks.com usually have contacts with Beetle friendly insurers. When I started out driving many moons ago, I think it was about £400 or so a year even on a provisional, when a modern car would have been nearer the £1500 mark.

    Keep on buggin !!!

I have a classic policy on my 81 Beemer while a named driver on my wife's policy. Any company doing classic insurance will want proof you're insured on an everyday car but it doesn't have to be yours. FBD may insure you without you having another car but don't quote me on this. I have my own policy with Carole Nash.

I think it goes back to the point of who drives the car mostly - you or your wife ?
Officially then you or she should be the policy holder. Although this might be a good way for you to get some no claims history built up ?

I am insured through Axa, limited to 3500 miles / yr which I dont get next nor near, my wife as named driver @ 257 eur, although this probably isnt the best deal around

    Thanks for the pointers lads
I got a couple of quotes today

Irish vintage was 195 for 3rd party and 5000 miles?

    First Ireland.
Fully comp. glass and breakdown cover and 6000 miles for 400euro
It will be cheaper for 2000 or 4000 miles i'll check when i'm getting it later in the week

I'm happy enough with this quote :)
