Problem painting a wall !

    Hi,

I'm having loads of trouble painting one wall in my house and it's giving me **** loads of grief. I checked out the other thead on painting a bedroom on the forum and have taken some of the advice on board but ... here's my problem ...

I've painted the wall with two different types of paint. I'm on my 3rd now (different colour again). Basically when I look at the wall face on, it looks fine ... no problems at all. When I look at the wall from the very side when the light is skimming off it, it looks terrible! Complete difference. I can see all the streaks etc on it.

I've tried using **** loads of paint, i've tried using little paint. I've tried using a brush and then lightly rolling it out and i've also tired headbutting the wall. I've used two different rollers too. WTF am I doing wrong? Please someone say it's just the wall :)

Matt will hide a bad wall to a point if you havent filled the wall with polyfiller, but if your using Vinyl silk or Soft sheen then it will show up a lot. This is the case especially if you used polyfiller as it will burn straight through Vinyl Silk and Soft sheen.Best thing to use would be a matt finish(white) then give it the normal two coats.

    it's plasterboard ... it's a new house. I haven't needed to use pollyfilla yet :)

I started using that crown one coat emulssion (and ended up giving it 3!). Then I I switched to their normal emulsion stuff.

It's natural light that seems to show up the streaks blatantly. It seems ok with artificial light.

    "Streaks" ?

    Is it reflected light?
    The previous colour not hidden?
    Brush marks or roller lines?

Perhaps you're seeing the taping and jointing in your plasterboard (timber frame houses are a big culprit for this)
    Post pics if possible...

What TYPE of finish is it? Soft sheen? Matt? Eggshell/silk?
As mentioned in the other thread one-coat wonders are a catchpenny.
