Ok, I fell on my iriver and now the button that contols everything is broken, the one in the middle.
    iRiver_iHP_140_1.jpg

It has gone in a bit and can't be pressed. I think everthing is fine but that, although I'm not sure how it might have affected anything. It still turns ona nd goes into the music, but I obvioulsy can't hit that play button.

How much do you think it would cost to fix and where could I get it done in galway?
If I just open it up and have a look myself, do you think it would be fairly easy to fix?
I have access to an electronic engineering lab so I should be able to get something that fits it from the technicians or something.
Do you think that is wise or should I play it safe and bring it to somebody?

I don't know if the button is broken somehow or just needs to be moved about a bit as I'm not familiar with its insides...

    anyway, thanks for any suggestions.

Same thing happened to me, I sat on mine:D It was still in warranty so I brought it back to Harvey Normans and they sent it off to either get repaired or replaced. It was replaced, which may be a bad sign for you :( I'm sure they would have fixed it if it was easy to fix:confused: I'd give it a go of opening it up yourself, or you could always send it off to iRiver themselves, you'd have to pay for any repairs made to it though.

tbh you're not going to find anyone that will touch it for under 100 euros and at that price you're better off putting the money into a fund and getting a new player.

i know you'll be reluctant to do this as would i cause i too have that player and it is the dog's bollocks and i'm holding on to it until it can't stands no more.

i'd say it's fairly easy to fix, the warranty would be up by now. if it was me i'd open it up and see could it be fixed.

good luck and i hope you get it fixed it was really the best player of its time.

if it's still in it's 2 year warranty then just send it off to iriver in germany and they'll fix it. I've had mine fixed twice while in warranty and once afterwards which they did for free anyway

you can use the remote instead to control things remember;)

Hey, thanks for the replies. I have no idea if the warranty is up, I bought it off Tusky on boards. Only he would know. It's probably up though. I'm not going to replace it though, it's frickin' sweet.
I'll probably open it up myself if they will charge at least 100e.

I have messed around with it a bit more.
At first I thought of the remote as cormie says, it works fine, things got better from then. I messed around with the button and now it can go up, down, left and right but can't be pressed in. It's only an annoying inconvenience but I can work it even without the remote. I would have to stick in the remote to change bands fast but that is grand.
One thing I have noticed is that it takes quite a while to boot up now, which is annoying, it is also a good bit louder when I turn it on, something is probably brushing off something. When it loads up it is fine though, I can change track, vol etc so I'll hang onto it, mabe try to fix it myself, although the noise worries me.

It still works as an external hard drive at the least. :)

EDIT: Messing around now I got it to press in and work, I think it is fixing itself over time.

that's pretty cool, but if it breaks in the future, just email the iriver european support guys with the serial number on the back and they'll tell you if it's still in warranty but as i said i got it fixed outside warranty even after i'd opened it up myself and had the rockbox firmware installed. they've the best customer support i've ever dealt with

It's still fairly dodgy, I may check out the serial if I can't fix it myself. Thanks. :)
