Hand from the Fitz €500 last night

OK. It's level 4, blinds are 150-300. I have 6.9k, and the villain in this hand (Paul Cryan) is directly on my right with about 8k. He makes it 900 to go in middle position, and I have TT. I decide to just flat call with position. Paul is solid enough and I don't feel like I need to get it all in preflop at this stage with TT, especially with players to act behind. So, the flop comes down 9 high rainbow. Paul bets out 1300, as he's doing with any two cards he's raised with, pair, overpair or overcards. I min raise to 2600 (I know, I hate it too). Anyway, he thinks for about a second and goes all in covering me. I have half my stack in the middle. Do you call or fold?

This was an EXCELLENT tourney by the way. Identical structure to boards monthly €200 game, well worth playing.

Your raise appears to be exactly what it is "Tell me where I am in the hand". Paul will probably perceive it this way too and move in with AK/AQ/KQs, as there are more combos of these hands than overpairs/99 it is a call.

Yikes. I'm really not a fan of the min-raise at. I shove the flop. As played, you shouldn't have got into a spot that would allow you to almost get away from it. Call and be done with it.

I know, as I said I HATE the min raise. I almost never do it, and this was actually a mistake. Paul bet 1300 (one 1k chip and three 100s). I thought it was 800, confusing the 1k chip with a 500, so I made it 2500. I realised what I'd done then and it stood as a min raise.

With the mini raise he either puts you on a move, top pair with good A kicker or he as a hand, I dont see him making this move with AK/AQ etc, so he either as a set or a bigger overpair, he could also have a smaller pair, but with so much in the middle, its hard to get away from, but folding would be the best option as I think your behind. But calling with so much already in the middle is not the worse move, you really should have push all in on the flop, what more of a flop could you ask for with 1010. He might have fold JJ here.

I don't think he's pushing here with overcards though. I'd been playing solid tbh.

Dave the flop is a push or fold,as played i think i would hate it but call hoping against hope he is AK or something.
i think he has got JJ.;)

    wd.

did u call or fold? I would av called btw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

I dont think it is a clear call. Paul doesn't get too tricky with overcards. He'll generally have something, most of the time TP or a pocket pair.

The only reason I would consider a call: David's raise to 2500 was very weak, and this might give Paul the confidence to push with something that we beat like A9 (he likes TPTK!) or maybe even a smaller pair.

The problem is Paul will also play JJ/QQ/KK/AA this way.

Really tricky hand and I think it's a "had to be there" one.

Think it's just about a fold for me given the info in the post.

Yeah I ended up folding. I was pretty tired at that stage, and didn't even think about it too long to be honest. The only hand I could see him doing it with that I was beating was A9, didn't even consider the underpair. Anyway I folded, and stupidly showed, hoping to get shown JJ or something, and he flipped over 88. :(:( That's the VERY bottom of his range there though IMO. Cue MAJOR tilt anyway, I'm all in about 4 hands later from the BB after a button raise. I have 7s8s and Liam Barker calls with AK. I turned the nuts.:D Followed the next hand by AA which I won a pot with, and QQ which I doubled up off the very next hand. :D:D:D . So, no longer on tilt.

Ended up taking it down after ALOT of play. I was pretty aggressive from two tables out, and got my stack from 20k to 70k. The big hand was AQ after I'd raised about 5 hands in a row, with junk all the other times. Solksjaer who posts on here made an unluckily timed move with Q9 for alot of chips, and I called considering what my image must have been like. Then I raised a load of times with junk and was pot committed a couple of times when shorties went over the top, but I hit all sorts of miracle flops to bust them. Then I got moved table when it was 5 and 5 handed on the last two. First hand I have JJ on the BB, the button pushes for quite a bit, so it's an autocall. She has KK. . REALLY didn't expect to be behind. So I was back down in the pack then.

Got to the final table with about average chips, took down the blinds about 5 hands in a row, and then this hand happened on my BB. The chip leader was an English pro, over with his mates for the EPT (one of whom was wearing a WSOP bracelet he won during the summer). Anyway he was a bit arrogant, and I could tell he didn't like the fact that I'd been stealing his thunder and raising so much. So, he (130k) raises my BB to 8k (blinds 1k 2k). I have 65k, and look down at KK. I picked up a rake of 1k chips (24k) and said 'raise', pushing them in the middle, hoping it would look like I was defending. He thought for about 2 minutes, and I was starting to get a bit annoyed with myself that I'd raised too much and was thinking it was less and less likely he'd re pop. So I picked up all my big chips left and started shuffling them lol, to make it look like I had chips left and could fold. He announced all in, I called obv, he had A5 and a K came on the flop. :D:D:D

From then on in it was pretty academic til we got HU. I picked up KK again taking out another player who had a flush draw, and the dealer Brian, who played an absolute stormer, got really unlucky in 4th place when he called a BIG push from the English guy with 55 on KK6 flop. English had A8 and he spiked an 8 on the turn. Eddie (Santa Clause lookalike) was very short stacked and got it in with AQ vs my K3 to go out third and we were HU.

This is the best part of the tourney for me now. I had a 270k to 170k chip lead, and I offered the English guy a pretty generous deal IMO. I was absolutely knackered you see, and wasn't really that bothered playing on. Plus he was a pretty good player despite the A5 hiccup earlier. I said we'd split it (taking 9k each) if he looked after the dealers for €800. Anyway he kind of sneered at me and said '50 50 chop or no deal at all'. His mates were all there watching this too. I basically told him there was no chance of that, and we played on. The next hand I called him down with 83 on an A763Q board for a big pot, and he was raging. He said to me 'how about we just even it up a bit, make it 10k and 8k' or whatever. I basically told him there was no chance and got it in with A3 v Q5 a few hands later. He filled a house. Then I wore him down again and got it in with K8 against his A3, I flopped the 8 he rivered the A. The very next hand when we were almost even he raised, I pushed with A8 and he called with KJ, I flopped the ace and that was it. It was the most satsifying victory I've had in such a long time because of the way he'd turned down the deal earlier. I've no problem with people refusing a deal, it's totally up to them, but at least they could just say 'No thanks, I really need the win' or something like that. No need to be a prick about it.

It was a great tourney anyway, I'll DEFINITELY be playing it next month if I'm around. They're going to make it two days for sure this time, it took 13.5 hours last night, so they kind of have to. The structure is identical to the boards game but the field is softer. Well worth a look anyway, the Fitz is finally offering a good tourney with a decent structure.

Finally met the infamous Dave o Call, quite the player alright, playing about a year now myself so it was nice to meet up with another high standard opponent (how else can you improve). I donked some chips to him I'm afraid due to his range i didn't think he had anything but he woke up with a junior monster (AQ) said he just folded it 3 times (yeah right lol) and I suppose I'm not exactly an AA only player so he made a good call and crippled me.....Think I played this hand badly but not too dispondent. Knew Dave would win this then as I reckoned only 2 other players left in it were a threat. WP sir..that English guy was a git and I was glad to cripple his (nice chap WSOP bracelet winner) buddy after he made the worst call I've seen in the Fitz since Luke wore that pink shirt..(pink is a girls colour I don't care)
THe BOLD BOY goes ot the Regency
Went into the Regency and was very bold in a mini tourny, I got suspended for 20 minutes for asking a raiser what he had left, counting out this amount
and lifting it up in my hand...I said nothng like reraise or allin, I was just looking for his reaction as I did it. He immediately threw in his chips(jumped the gun a bit) and said " in the US if you lift up your chips and move even slightly foward you are considered all in.". Doh I thought, my evil deed had backfired, ( Never happens online) however I maintained I never said all in or moved over the line, the dealer agreed and the TD came over and suspended me for unethical behaviour....I went off feeling like I cheated the chap, I came back and just called his next all in and left quickly.....*lesson learned* i do think I was kinda cheating there so fair enough. We shook hands and I told him I was off to say 10 hail Marys..( I only said 5...I get soo bored with the rosary)

Solksjaer = Willie Clynes if anyone is interested. (average player but improving a little I think)

Congratulations Dave. You go well without my support. :D

In my experience players who refuse a deal (= I can outplay you) often lose out. They start making moves.

I never knew that's who you were. I have commented recently to people that you have improved an awful lot over the last year alright, but I still think that was an awful deal you did last Friday night in the Fitz after you did well to play yourself back into in from a few tables out.

We have played together quite a bit over the last year or so. In case you don't know me from here I am the guy that came 10th last Friday losing the huge pot.

Bad read on this occasion Olly. We threatened to clash on a few occasions, but never did get all the dough in, and we were on seperate tables when I got eliminated finally.

Aaah yes I know ya, big pot , brave call unlucky. 5starpool? now that name is like a red! flag to a bull to a Solksjaer. (I know spelt incorrectly) Nice 2-0 win :D:D Come on you reds
As for poker It's only now I realise how little I know about this game. L plates still firmly affixed to my arms. As for the deal, the money didn't matter it was more the embarassment of it next day (ie two hours later) when I woke up....DOOOHHHH! :o I cabbed it home also as I as too tired to drive and completely forgot I could have been clamped.....miraculously not.
Bring on WSOP 2015 I'll be ready. (if we're not all drowned in our beds before then)

btw I've played Ollyk1 he is pure GRANITE. :D
