Broken 60GB Ipod photo, how to get repaired?

    Hey folks,

I have had my 60GB Apple photo for the last 13 months and have been very happy with it, until this week when it stopped working. i get the sad ipod icon when i power up, and then the un-animated low battery icon. my PC can't recognise it, and to cut a long story short the thing is dead.

Since i am out of warranty, i went on to the apple website and went through the "request service" system, at the end i was told it will cost €261 to repair the unit ( )

Realistically i would probably be better off just buying a new unit(if i had that kind of money just burning a hole in my pocket). I guess i am annoyed because i only ever use the ipod in my car in a cradle and have not done anything rough or careless with it, and the think has broken only one month after the bloody warranty has expired.

so has anyone out there had a similar experience & can maybe offer me some advice? I assume since i am out of warranty coverage i have zero consumer rights on this issue?

    hiya
had similar problem but seemed that battery was duff, maplins sell replacements (think it was about 16 yo yos) with kit for removing case for access and clear instructions. However, u don't have to unscrew the bottom icb, just lift it very, very carefully and ease out the wires. Best of luck.
