buying with laser card

I'm trying to buy a game online. It's asking for an issue number or a start date. I was wondering if anyone knows what that is? It also said my card number didn't match my credit card type. I don't have a credit card, it's a laser. My card has maestro on it but is maestro also used for credit cards? Can I not actually use a laser card to buy online?

    I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Maestro is a Debit Card, just like your Laser Card. Only sites displaying Maestro will accept Laser Cards - and that's very very few. The majority are Credit Card only. If you don't want to buy into the world of Credit Cards, then try a 3V Card - just like Ready to Go for phones.

The advantage is that you can use Maestro as an ATM card in quite a lot of countries.

    Thanks guys.

It was amazon.co.uk and maestro was displayed.

Anyway, I've given up since I found the same item on ebay. Now I've ordered it and have to send a cheque to the guy for £19.98. Is it ok to send him a euro cheque for €29.79 (which I calculated using an online euro converter)?

Not entirely sure, you might want to email him and ask. Normally I send a bank draft in sterling if I have to do so. Have you no Paypal account?

No I don't have a credit card. I'm just wondering now, surely it can't be safe to just post a cheque to some random guy in England? It's on ebay but since I'm not using paypal it's not that secure, is it?

Well if you have to send the cheque then make sure you have a copy of it and keep a receipt when you post it (make sure you use some sort of recorded delivery) if it backfires.

A cheque is, at the very least, more secure than sending cash in the post, or using Western Union.
