I was just wondering does anyone know about the process of transferring courses?
Im currently doing CA and will definetly do it for the year but im finding it quite hard and have doubts about passing the exams so i just want to keep my options open for next year, because i defo want to stay in college but i dont want to repeat first year CA if i dont pass...
Is there anyone that knows about transferring to a different course within the college? Like when would be the best time to apply if u wanted to? would i have to apply for a transfer before the results of the exams are out like before the end of this year? and where wud u have to go to apply and all dat? any help would b great! cheers x

Go to your year head/head of school. Theyll have all the info you need.

I know to transfer internally you definitely need to pass all your exams, and you have to pay to do 1st year again, which is anywhere between 4-6 grand.

Don't give up so easily, everyone finds it difficult, talk to your tutor, class rep or one of your lecturers and explain the difficulties you're having. They may be able to get you extra help, or help put you in the right direction.

You're only six weeks into the course, you'll feel worse at the end of it all if you change/drop out without having given it your best shot.

There are resources available to help you.

And as far as I know you can appeal your fees...

Look into it from offical sources as Amz and myself suggested... :)

And dont give up all hope!

    Not if you're Winters...

I'm tutoring first year CAs this year, and there's a lot of material to take in, they don't all get it straight away, but every one of them is capable of doing it and I'd say you're no different.
I think nearly everyone finds CA tough at first, but give it time and things will start to click.

I know someone who went from Journalism, to International Business, to a science course, all within DCU. Its quite possible. As for fees...

Are you looking to transfer into the 2nd year of another course? If you are then you will have to pass your exams and there will have to be a lot of overlap between CA1 and the 1st year of the other course. If you are just looking to get into first year of a different course then you shouldn't have to pass exams (or take them), but you will have to pay full fees.

Read what public_enemy said ^^, if you enjoy it and are willing to work at it you will pass CA1.

I transferred into CA from another course in DCU and it was a fairly painless exercise (except for the full fees thing of course), the folks in the registry were very helpful.

Yeah id like to do first year of the new course as it hasnt got much related with CA so I wouldnt mind repeating first year. I didnt expect to get put into 2nd year.
When you transfered courses, how did u go about it like.. when and how did u apply? Did u do the first year of ur first course and then transfer into 2nd year CA?

I had passed the first year of physics and during second year (around christmas time) of second year I contacted the registry and they gave me a form to fill in for transferring to another course, I transferred into the first year of CA the following September. If you want to start into the first year of the other course for next september you should contact the registry now.

Yeah, I cant remember exactly when I found out but it was well before the CAO applicants find out. I think it was around the time that you apply for the cao because I remember that I made a cao application just in case and had to cancel it after I was offered the place in CA.
