Ok hopefully someone here can help with this but it might be difficult .
I've just rebuilt my pc with a new main board and an xp reinstall as my old board died.
When im using the computer after a period of time the whole comp just hangs screen stays frozen and i have no input control(mouse/keyboard)if im browsing the net and the status bar on firefox is moving it will stick. The computer does seem to start to stutter before it locks up completely.
Only thing i can do is do a restart but if i restart it too soon after it will freeze up straight away.I thought maybe its overheating. But if the processor was overheating im sure it would have fried itself by now.

    Computer spec is
    athlon 64 3400+
    ecs elitegroup 755-a2 k8ht1600 board
    512mb crucial ram
    80gb seagate barracuda ide

    Maybe someone has an idea.
    thanks

Run memtest86 and see if you come up with anything.

I agree with Ruu -- run a memory test. Dodgy memory can cause all sorts of problems.

Perhaps your processor is overheating. Does your motherboard have any utility to allow you to check its temperature?

yea im kinda thinkin its the processor alright. but ill run memtest.
another question i noticed that when it does crash it seems to reset the clock.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the OS set the motherboard's clock when shutting down? I guess that, when your PC freezes, Windows doesn't sync the BIOS clock with it's Internet-synced time?

Either that or the battery in your motherboard for the clock is on the way out.
