Neverwinter Nights II is out next week and I was just wondering how many people are planning on getting it. But also should we look at restarting the multiplayer games once more. I've a machine we can use for the dedicated server (assuming a linux server is released).

I'm gonna buy it based entirely on how much fun the first one was. Granted, it didn't have the shiniest graffics, nor the most involved storyline or characters, but it was damn solid fantasy adventuring.

definitely on the "to-buy" list :) And, as soon as BT get my broadband sorted I'll be up for a return to the online gaming fun.

NWN works well online and there are lots of public servers none of which charge.

just bought it today havent had time to install it, but what i've been reading so far troubles me a bit. Seems theres some fairly major performance issues with it, the 1st 2 pages of the manual are dedicated to troubleshooting performance issues (common sense stuff like killing all unused programs and taks etc. and updating drivers) ill update once i've seen for myself, but will be tomorrow by the time i get back to my games box.

It is a rescoruce hog, hence the trouble shooting guide.
The graphics are amazing but I would opt for less flashier graphics if there weren't as many load screens.

I'm going to buy it today. looking forward to it - loved the first one

Got it on Friday and I'm loving it. It's really like a Baldur's Gate 3 rather than a Neverwinter Nights Sequel, in that it feels more like the older games. SAdly, I've noticed 3 problems so far:

    1. There are too amny character classes to choose from, and although this should be a good thing, it's left me constantly thinking that I should restart with a different character! :D

    2. The autoupdater doesn't seem to work. It starts to patch and then crashes.

    3. The autosave is pretty much non-existent. I assumed that it's save everytime you enter a new area, but it doesn't. So far, it's autosaved once and I'm after arriving in Neverwinter.

But I'll forgive it cause it's just so gosh darn brilliant!

might be time for a PC update :D
Was playing first one with Wife last night. Trying to get through eye of the beholder.
Not sure her PC will handle it, mine might even be sluggish.

I'm running it on a 2.6ghz core duo and 4gigs of ram and am still tweaking with the gfx. Engine must be pretty crappy for that to happen.

That said, it is very close to Baldur's Gate - enjoying it hugely.

The patcher worked fine for me I have to say & I don't think you can really criticise it for the huge array of classes etc. I just picked the same ol' class as I always do and got on with it. Its too bewildering to do anything else!

Yeah, I can't help but feel I'm way over my head with character creation these days. What ever happened to the good old days of Fighter/Thief/Ranger/Mage? :D

I love the crafting part of this game. I can easily see myself spending more time piddling about with making new magical armour than completing the game (but then again, I'm sad like that!).

If you think thats sad, one of my favorite parts of these games is clearing out and organising my inventory for God's sake!! Somebody shoot me in case its contagious.

Irony is I'm a messy b*stard irl. Go figure.

I don't think they are looking at a linux release at all unfortunately. And inventory tetris is no more from what I've heard. Unfortunately my preorder hasn't arrived yet so I can't say for sure (stupid overeager anticipation)

Yeah no linux server as of yet, but then again theres no dedicated server full-stop. It would be surprising if they didnt release dedicated server for linux.
But anyway even without that we can proceed we some online games if people are on for it.

I'm hoping to get the game at lunchtime today and was thinking of giving the multiplayer a go on monday night.

If you're interested stick your name down here, I'll take a look at the current modules available and see if theres one we could have a bash with.

I liked the first one so I'm up for multiplayer.

    Is it worthy of purchase?

Hard to say. Its very much more of the same, which isn't a bad thing.
The real strength of Neverwinter Nights has always been the user generated content (and to a lesser degree the premuim modules). As the game is only just out thats a bit thin on the ground but starting to come if you look at the vault.

The single player game seems ok, not anything to write home about so far (ihaven't played that much tbh so other may know better).

I'd say it worth it, although there might be no harm in holding off for a bit if its the multiplayer aspect which solely appeals to you.

If you're brave enough and I understand those with children not wishing to, we're hunting the Faction Pig on monday.

Must get this today and try and dig up my old NWN again. Ahh good times

Most definatly i'll be playing this as soon as i get hooked up to broadband at home.

I imagine as Rev says its more of the same just oh so more shiny and sparkley. NWN was really really good, so i'll be asking the jolly red fat man for this one oh yes i will!!

    I bought it yesterday.

I'm surprised that it requires an 86mb patch to play online, not exactly what I expected for a brand new game.

My pc is having a hard time running it strangely enough, Dark Messiah runs with everything maxed out perfectly, as does any other game I ever installed.

Even Medieval Total War 2 runs better.
