I recently bought a new pc, Its a windows xp x64 system with amd I also got myself an audio interface - a focusrite saffire LE, I installed the driver for the interface and I am getting this awful crackling noise when I play anything thru it, I googled the problem and I read that it could be an IEEE 1394 firewire problem Can anybody tell me or guide me in the right direction as to what the problem is, I rang the tech support line of the interface manufacturer and the guy told me to download a beta driver which I cannot seem to find anywhere .
    Please help

Did any configuration utility come with the device? I know there's one for my sound card and, by default, the sound is hollow and very strange.

Does it only make the crackling noise when your PC is outputting something or is it the whole time? Your speakers/headphones are hardly experiencing interference of some sort?

I am not sure about the configuration utility there is only drivers on the cd, as regards the crackling there is none on the headphones only output as you said.I was looking at another forum and a guy who had the same problem with the same interface said he fixed his by downloading a fix from microsoft for IEEE-1394 driver from Microsoft for XP SP2 i dowloaded this fix but I cant get it to install he said he unpacked it and copied to his registry and it worked But I have no idea how to do this
    Any ideas?

Well, your best shot is to visit the card manufacturer's website and to find the latest software there. Download and install [even create a system restore point beforehand].

Microsoft may have a driver for the card. Right click on 'My Computer', choose 'Hardware' and 'Device Manager'. Click the plus sign beside relevant headings to find the device. When you do, right click it, choose 'Update Driver' and allow it to search online. It may not help at all but it's worth a go.

You're probably familiar with the process, but here's a screenshot anyway.
