    I'm not sure if I'm placing this in the right forum - apologies Mods' if not. Have been using AVG Antivirus software for the last few years and just updated it the other day to ver. 7.5. Ever since I cannot receive emails - but can send them OK. Tried the AVG forum and whatever advice has been given to others with de same problem just won't work. When I try to receive emails I get the folllowing error -

    The server responded with an error. Account: '2nd Email Address', Server: 'mail.oceanfree.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

    Any help would be greatly appreciated guys

    Spfeno

    Who is your internet provider?

    Try:
    Start -> run -> command
    In the box: telnet mail.oceanfree.net 110

    Paste the output back here.

    Karoma,

    error window pops up inside the Telnet window telling me it

    COULD NOT ESTABLISH A CONNECTION TO MAIL.OCEANFREE.NET

    (This would suggest that the problem is not with AVG, but with your computer/connection.)

    Disable firewalls, and check your router's firewall settings for POP3/port 110, and try that command again.

    I tried to ping mail.oceanfree.net just now and it timed out. Pinged mail1.eircom.net and it's fine. Maybe mail.oceanfree.net is down.

    Or maybe it's just not responding to echo requests... It's up. I could telnet OK.

    Your mail server(incoming and outgoing) should mail1.eircom.net. Load Outlook and select Tools\Accounts. Select your account and click properties and make sure the above is entered correctly. I have been using AVG(ewido) for years and never had it interfer with my e-mails.
