Anyone heard of or listened to these guys? Borrowed the album 'Neon Golden' off a girl in college and it seems very good indeed. CDDB didn't even recognise the CD which makes me think they may be quite obscure. Nice vocals off a mix of electronic and guitars. Nice n chilled. Gonna give it a few more listens.

Brill Band ...picked up "Neon Golden" and the one before that "Shrink" ...in Paris a few years ago.

The Electronic Glitch sound mixed with indie rock works very well ,,they kind of did it before Thom Yorke & Radiohead.

Kind of like Four Tet - Mouse on Mars etc slowed down

They have also done an experimental Hip Hop album with "Themselves" of the Anticon records called "13 & God"

^ Yeah, I think that's one of the reasons I took to it so fast. Pick up the phone reminds me of Idioteque. Where are they from? Neon Golden has been getting a LOT of ipod playage this week.

Yep, Chemicals and OneWithTheFreaks are my favourite tunes by them.

I quite liked "Pick Up The Phone" and "Pilot", but I found that I grew tired of the album after a while. They have a very distinctive sound, and if you don't absolutely love that kind of sound, it starts to annoy you a bit.

" Good music takes time. The Band "The Notwist" works in the quiet surroundings of the small Bavarian town Weilheim with a reliable and productive group of producers and musicians. Documentary filmmaker Joerg Adolph spent 70 days with "maybe the most important Pop-Group in Germany" (FAZ), while they where recording their masterpiece "Neon Golden". The film shows the intimate situation of working in the studio, where the music is composed, recorded, listened to, redone, discussed, abandoned and redone again. The DVD features also the video for PILOT, also directed by Joerg Adolph.
    Plus 40 minutes bonus material.

    Deutschland 2002
    Original language: German, English subtitles"

The anticon label has some serious stuff on it alright.

Alias & Tarsier, Sole, Doseone, Telephone Jim Jesus, Why?, Buck 65 to name but a few. Found a savage 4gig torrent file a while back from anticon, loads of sweet albums. (no sign of the torrent file now by the way)

Check out www.anticon.com (there's a good music and video playlist on it) and maybe check out www.buck65.com (nice few bits available to download for free on that). There's also a few podcasts available.

new album out in May I think, and I'm going to see them in Galway in June. Can't wait. I love "at one with the freaks" and "pick up the phone"

Yep- the new album The Devil, You + Me is due out in May at some stage. Have heard the single Where In The World on Phantom and it is a cracking tune.

I haven't listened to their early stuff, but after two listens their new album has potential. Not jaw dropping but pretty nice nonetheless.
