Anyone know the best way to rent an apartment in or around bondi beach?
Two of us are travelling there tomorrow and have no accom. Looking for decent standard place that is also cheap-ish. any help appreciated

Well your best option will be to stay in a hostel for a while when you first arrive and then get some papers and look through the ads for apartments to rent.

Secondly bondai is not a great place to live and reciently(last couple of months) alot of apartment blocks have introduced bans against travelers staying in them.
This is due to alot of people renting a 1or 2 bed apartments and having 7-8 people living there and creating loads of noise and trouble for neighbours.

Bondai will be getting expensive at this time of the year seen as the summer is approaching.

As is said papers are your best option.
If you fail to get a place in bondai try Coogee Bay. About 6k south of bondai. Beautiful beach. Plenty of places to get out and party at night. Lived there for 2 months and loved it.

    Check out www.thegumtree.com.au

Also, why not try one of the northern beaches? Nicer areas and handy for transport as well.

We rented a flat in Bondi at the top of the hill near the golf course. There was 5 of us in a 3 bed place. It was about 1000 euros a month, If I had the time over again I would have got a place in Coogee or Manley. If you are stuck for somewhere to stay there is a little hostel called Indys that's OK while you look for somewhere else, It's about in the middle of Bondi beach on the street with the open fronted bar (thin it's called revasees or something).

NEVER stay in Indys! worst place ever
after hosteling for 3 months (USA&NZ) I came to this place and it was horrible

maybe it was my experience but the place was filthy, people used the cups/plates for ashtrays,

Bondi can be beautiful, or it can be a kip, most people don't have the money for beauty so they stay in a dive ... I did it and it was great!

Best bet, just head out and look around the internet cafe's and streets advertising accom. If they are advertised on a street chances are they are short-term stay friendly

www.gumtree.com.au is decent and free or
www.domain.com.au also has some short term stays

But I'd 2nd the Coogee thing
or you can try Randwick or Clovelly
    which is right beside coogee

I wasn't bigging the place up or anything, I just said it was OK whilst looking for something else. There was five of us staying there together - One of my friends and I were sharing a room with 2 gorgeous swedish girls. All the lads said that the hostels in NZ were much better.
