I don't often find myself agreeing with Dick R but on this occasion he was right; he has heavily critisced Laois coco for rezoning huge amounts of land around many small towns and villages around the county. I know Laois county very well and I have to say the development of sprawling estates around Mountmellick and Portlaoise in recent years has been incredible.
Only thing is most of the buyers of these houses seem to be Dublin commuters- I mean I can't think of a single major employer in the county offhand so the pressure for growth seems to be coming from outside the county. Some of the rezonings were ridiculous and would encourage even more commuting i.e. Planned developments at/ near planned motorway interchanges. Totally at odds with the NDP and National Spatial Strategy in my opinion.
