Aliens is an excellent game that I wouldn't mind picking up for my cab. Others that i'm after consist of R-Type, Raiden, King Of Fighters 2003, K0F '99, Raiden.

Might just splash out on some MVS carts tomorrow actually - i have a good source up north.

This is one of the games that brought me into the world of emulation to be honest. I used to play it out in Skerries in Co. Dublin along with Ghosts n Goblins. The game is 16 years old and I fire it up every now and again:D

Funny you mention that - that Aliens machine is still in that Amusement Arcade (Bob's) making money to this very day.

Bob's is one of the few amusement arcades in Ireland that has all of the classic machines still on site making money. OutRun, Shinobi, Street Fighter II, Super e.Sprint, operation wolf etc etc. The list is endless, not to mention the more modern machines they have. It's amazing that a place like that still exists in Ireland to be honest.

I liked aliens but didn't think it was brilliant.

Anyone know the name a game in bob's casino? It was an overhead shooter like mercs or commando. I remember in the attract sequence that there was a boss that shoots lasers that cut the floor away.

No thats not it. That looks way too 8-bit. The game I'm after was much more 16-bit looking. Had a smilar look to Super Contra but a little nicer looking iirc.

What?? I remember going to an arcade in Skerries - must be close to 15 years ago - where they had SFII Champion Edition. Remember being able to play as Vega (not as good as we expected to be honest) but still! My brother had told me about that place, and I went there while we were on some summer camp trip to the beach or something. And you're telling me that's still there?!

Dude, I have got to get out there.

God bless you Bob, whoever you are.

Oh, and I haven't played Aliens in a very long time, but i'd sure like to try it again. I have few memories of playing it (except that I was crap at it). Mostly I remember watching the demo while waiting to get my ass kicked in Street Fighter!

I'm fairly sure it's Outzone. Dit it have a sort of generic sci-fi setting with robots and metal walls etc.? And normal or 3-way weapons?

That could be it. Your description seems to fit the bill. I'll give it a try tonight.

Are there still original Star wars and a Return of the Jedi cabs in Skerries? I've been racking my brain the last few days trying to remeber all the games I used to pump money into. Pac-Land and New Zealand story were defo in there.

I was last in Bob's just a few months back but I don't remember seeing Star Wars or Return Of the Jedi on site. I'd say there is a good chance they are still there, but in storage. There is still a Defender there, but it's in storage.

Pac-Land is definitely still on site making money although I can't remember seeing New Zealand Story, it could be in storage also... There was a LOT of machines to get around tho! I wish I took some decent pics. :(

It's good to hear they still have all the older games. I was out in Bray a few months back and all they have now is the usual Silent scope, Tekken 5 stuff. Oh and dodgy 'Simulators':D

Aliens is class, used to be in the pierrot in dun laoghaire, 2 player was a good game. I used to like it since you got a really long game out of it. The pastely graphics were nice too. Shooting up those egg things on the ground, nice bit of gore.

Yeah i used to play aliens in the strand bowl in north strand when i was 12. Brilliant game (for the time), and the very first game i even thought about downloading for MAME a few years ago. Well that, and final fight. Anyone remember a game they had ins trand bowl called mutant fighter? It was brilliant, and almost impossible to find anywhere. Even googling it is next to useless.
