i have installed new monitor 17 sharp tft using dvi cable and i am trying to get it run @ recommended resolution 1280 by 1024 @60Hz but i can get it. the screen keeps popping up with out of timing message

when referring to manual it says follow computers operation manual to set the timing so that it is compatible with the monitor

any ideas on how to do this?

You can set the resolution and refresh rate in the control panel of your graphics card drivers.

If you're not sure how to accesss it, just right-click the desktop, click properties\settings\advanced and then click the tab for your gfx card (usually ATi, nVidia, SiS,).

    thanks for reply

still no joy i was able to access these settings but once i changed the settings to native resolution and hit apply i got the timing out message

going into the nvidia control didnt do anything either

so back to the SHARP manual which if the monitor is receiving timing signals that are not compatible (out of timing) message will appear. Follow your computers operation manualto set the timing so that its compatible with the monitor

anyone got any ideas on how to do this?

Did you set the display frequency to 60Hz, as well as resolution to 1280 by 1024? That's all you should have to do to get it working.
