Moving house and taking Sky questions...

Hi everyone. We are soon to move house (twice) in the next 6 months and I intend to take my standard Sky box/dish etc with me and set it up (thanks to the guides here).

We subscribe to Sky Sports etc - how is this controlled - by a signal down the phone line to our viewing card (we have had the same card for years)?

When we move, if we cancel our Sky sub how will we be prevented from receiving the pay channels we already have?

It is controlled by a signal sent to the viewing card (don't think its through the phone line as we never had a phone line plugged in and often changed our channel choices) as far as I can remember.

Who ever is the Sky account holder will have to ring up and cancel the subscription.
Sky require 1 months notice to cancel so you will have your Sub channels for at least another 30 days.
They will no doubt try to tempt you with offers of free box, 3 months half price or whatever promotion they are currently running.
As far as i am aware you can get a new multiroom contract for €69 now with 3 months Sky world half price.

Yes, as Ruu said, the update keys etc and software updates are done via the satellite dish. If you cancel, you can be rest assured that the pay-TV channels WILL disappear!

Why cancel? If you cancel, within minutes you get only free tv channels.

Phone line nothing to do with it. All by Satellite with the TV channel you watch :)

Thanks for all the help everyone. I did not realise the un-encryption was done via the dish. I thought when you call up to change package or whatever and they say it will take an hour then the info was sent down the phone line. They actually send this down into the dish then?!

I will probably not cancel but just wanted to check.

After reading something on another site I tried the old 'ring up and threaten to leave' thing and after some negotiating they halved my costs for the next three months and said call again after this ends and they will sort something out again.

    :)
