Where to park when getting the train?

I’ve recently moved to Clonsilla, for the past few months I’ve walked to the train station but with the cold and dark nights coming in I don’t really fancy the 25 minute walk. I know a lot of people park their car along the grass at the station but I’ve heard that not very safe as people have had their cars keyed etc. I was thinking of parking in the Clonsilla Inn, does anyone park there? Is it safe?

I'd say the Clonsilla Inn is fine, but its still a 15-20 minute walk. Depending on where you are living it might be easier to drive to Coolmine and park in the car-park there.

It's a good 10 minute walk from there to the station, and I imagine the pub owners would discourage this sort of thing.

A lot of people park on the Ongar/Clonsilla link road but I'd say you'd have to be there pretty early to get a space

You might have seen the article in a recent free newspaper ("Rail passengers causing parking chaos", Northside People West, 18 Oct).
It described how "willy-nilly" overspill parking from Clonsilla train station is causing problems for nearby estates. Bins were not being collected because of the trucks cannot get by the inconsiderately parked cars.

I live near Coolmine station and we have similar situations. I don't particularly mind people coming to the area to park-and-ride (at least they are using public transport for some of their journey) but many people don't think about where they park e.g. close to junctions, both sides of a road (making it very narrow), on footpaths (limiting pedestrians - though residents are equally bad).

If you are dressed appropriately (which I assume you will be for the other end of your journey), the walk will be a good, healthy thing. Get a hi-viz vest (store in your pocket/bag/purse) so you are seen. Halfords in the Blanch Centre will have them.
Or, how about cycling to/from the station?

PS. I cycle the 9 miles each way to work. If the weather is brutal I'll get the train most of the way, and jog the last 2 miles.

Get a Lowe Alpine jacket if you want to keep warm. I commuted from Maynooth to Damastown for a year and I got one of those jackets and a pair of gloves from them aswell. The only thing that keeps you warm at the train station or walking to it.

I swear by it. That and an MP3 player/PSP/Nintendo DS and your good to go assuming you like movies/music/games.

Did you walk/cycle from Clonsilla or bus it from Castleknock?
How easy/hard is that journey everyday from Maynooth?
