iirc the law states that the position must remain redundant for at least 6 months after a person is made redundant...is there a loophole if you use contractors?

It could be argued that contractors don't consitute full-time employees (another reason agencies are very keen to deal with contractors as Ltd. companies).

Additionally, unless you were doing a very specific and defined role, the company can easily argue the the role 'changed' and required different responsibilites.
