Irish Interview for acceptance into Primary Ed course

Quick question that I hope you can help me with.

I've decided that primary school teaching is the future for me.
I already have a good degree (though unrelated), so would be looking to do a post grad diploma.

I'm currently studying for my Honors Irish leaving cert, as I did OL first time round.
I'm only at the start of this course, & hope to sit the exam in 2008.

My question is this:- In my interview for being accepted for these courses, I'll also get interviewed in Irish, & it says a "high level" of Irish is expected.

    What's a "High Level"?
Is it as would be expected in the Leaving Cert Oral exam, or is it much more advanced?

Has anyone experience of these interviews? Any knowledge of the sorts of topics discussed in Irish etc, or how long the Irish interview lasts for?

Anyone any ideas of what they're looking for in a candidate?

They say previous teaching experience not necessary, but in your experience, is this the case?
Would I be safer to try & fit in some teaching experience some where? (In full time employment!)

Any other advice / suggestions / help etc you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I know I'm a long way from reaching my goal at the minute, but I may as well find out exactly what's expected of me as early as possible so I have as much time as possible to prepair for it.

    Thanks.

I helped a friend of mine to prepare for her interview for the hibernia course. She'd done honours Irish for Leaving Cert 6 years previously so she had a basic knowledge but her oral Irish was crap! We went over all the types of question she was likely to be asked and she more or less learned them off. Outside of that she wouldn't have been too comfortable in a normal conversation. Anyway, she got through the interview and got on the course so I'd say if you can manage the honours level next year you'll be fine with the interview. Good luck!

i agree with killbill vol2 (love your username btw) if you've leaving cert. hons. Irish standard you should be more than well able for the interview - confidence in your own ability is key in these situations!

It may have been chosen after a particularly stressful day in the classroom! :D

My friend did a really good course in Mullingar last year. I think the place was called the Belvedere Institute. They had a seminar on what questions would be asked and everyone had a mock interview at the end of it. You should see if they're running it again this year.

She did the interview for the Hibernia course and had a good idea of the questions because one of her friends had done the interview a couple of days before her. They basically asked exactly the same questions again. I've no idea what they'd ask in Pat's.

I've asked her to root out her notes from the interview preparation because BoozyBabe asked me to so I'll post the info here when I have it. (Hopefully next Monday).
