    Hi i hope someone can help me.... my motherboard is fried i have a dell inspiron 2200, i dropped it in for repair the guy said the laptop is worth less than it would cost to put in a new mother board. Which is fie, i need to xfer my data from the crocked hard drive to a new laptop, whats the best way to do this?

    If the motherboard is the only thing fried then you could get a 2.5" USB2 caddy and put the disk into that. Copy off the data to a new laptop or computer then easily enough.

    If the hard disk is also fried then you may not be able to recover anything, depending on how badly it's damaged.

    I've done this a couple of times. You need to connect the old laptop drive to a PC. You'll need a specific cable for this job - here's a link to the cable in Maplins.

    Having done this, you then connect the new laptop and PC across a network and simply copy over the data from the PC to the new laptop.
